Read her scriptures 10:20am
Met the doctor about 2:00pm. He said no big change in her condition as far as being able to breathe on her own. However, he did say the the viral pneumonia is gone. They are treating her with antibiotics for a bacterial strain that she picked up along the way. The steroids they have been "blasting" her with do not seem to be having any impact. They will continue the "blast" for one more night and then re-evaluate the situation. Her vital signs are holding as long as the keep the ventilator on 90% concentraton. A couple of days ago she required 100% so that is definitely an improvement. When the cut it to 80% though she cannot sustain her oxygen count for more than a half an hour. The PEEP is still at 15. The respiratory people have permission to raise it higher if necessary but fortunately that hasn't been necessary. Again, the goal is to get the ventilator to 40% concentration and the PEEP to 5 so that they can get her off the machine.
The doctor says that sometimes the lungs take their own sweet time repairing. "She is going to be with us a while."
